Sussex Hockey Champions for the second year in a row

Sussex U16 County Hockey Tournament

The girls turned up to play the County Championships in the rain at Hurstpierpoint College on Monday 5th October. There were 10 teams entered for the competition and these teams were split into two sections.  Ardingly was placed in section A with Hurst, Bedes, Christ's Hospital and St. Leonards, Mayfield.

The first game was a wet affair against Hurst which ended in a 0-0 draw.  The second game was against CH which are a great battle of skill and power which also ended in a draw 1-1.   The girls then went onto beat Bedes and St. Leonards 1-0 and 2-0 respectively, which made them top of the group with 8 points.

The semi-finals were played against Brighton College, which was a hard fought game of skill and the Ardingly girls managed to convert a lovely open play goal down the right hand side and then it was slotted in on the left post.  The girls at this point had now qualified for the Regional Finals.

The final was a great game against Eastbourne.   Ardingly scored at great set piece corner in the first 9 minutes and managed to hold onto the lead until half time.   The girls then scored quickly at the start of the second half.  Eastbourne never gave up and clawed back a goal.  The final score was 2-1 and Ardingly  retained the County Championship for the second year in a row.

This achievement was testament to excellent teamwork, belief and patience.  Well done to all the girls who shone as one united body.

Good luck with the Regional Finals which will take place after half term.
