Dear Aberdeen Parents, girls and friends,

Dear Aberdeen Parents, girls and friends,

Welcome to the House blog. The aim of this blog is to give you access to non-vital information about the House and College. The girls get involved with so much at the College and I hope to use this forum as a way of keeping you informed of the activities they get involved in.

Please do join in and check it out whenever you can.

Girls U16 team become U16 Hockey Champions

U16 Girls are Sussex Hockey County Champions 2014

On Monday 6th October, during adverse weather conditions, the U16 girls took on other schools from around Sussex to compete for the title of County Champions.   This prestigious event also comes with it a chance to represent Sussex in the Southern Regional Championships in early November.

The girls played in four qualifying matches before reaching the Semi-finals.   They beat Christ’s Hospital 3-0, Hurstpierpoint College 2-1, Brighton College and Bedes 1-0 respectfully.  This took them through to the semi-finals as clear winners of the group.

The rain was persistent throughout the whole event, never relenting, but the girls performed at a very fast pace, outplaying all opposition, frequently being camped out in their attacking halves.  All the girls played well, despite the conditions.

The semi-finals was against St. Leonard’s Mayfield, who were the runners-up in the other pool, in a challenging match.   The Ardingly team worked hard to secure a 1-0 victory.   The St. Leonard’s goal keeper was extremely good on her feet and made the team work for their victory.

The final was then against the winners of both pools, Ardingly and Eastbourne College.   Ardingly had many chances to score but sadly could not convert spending 90% of the time camped in the Eastbourne circle.   The Eastbourne goalie played out of her soaks to help her team hold onto a 0-0 draw at full time.   It then went to penalty flicks, which is always a challenging way to decide a winner.

Five of Ardingly’s finest took responsibility, putting themselves forward to take the penalty flicks, Lauren Workman, Imogen Waters, Rosie Boggis, Ciara Branagan and Phoebe Workman.   The first two flicks from both sides were saved by respective goalkeepers.   Rosie Boggis then converted the next flick, followed by Eastbourne College.   Ciara Branagan then scored a strong flick in the bottom right hand corner, followed by Freya Thursfield (GK) saving a vital Eastbourne flick.   This then left Phoebe Workman to take the tournament winning flick.   As Captain, she led from the front, slotting in a strong flick into the bottom left hand corner.   Eastbourne failed to convert the last flick which then crowned Ardingly as Sussex Hockey County Champions 2014 and who now go forward to the Southern Regional rounds at either Stowe or Epsom on the 5th November.   Well done girls.
